If I Only Had Time-

I Would learn about beekeeping!

Honey bees, make and do things that are helpful to humans. They are very interesting insects. Honey bees provide us with honey, royal jelly, beeswax and propolis. They are very cooperative insects and have good colony structure. They are the prome pollinators of the planet. Honey bees are social insects. A typical hive is divided into worker bees and drones, ruled by the queen.

Famous beekeepers include:

Ben Franklin a patron for Thomas Wildman's 1768 Treatise on the Management of Bees.

Brigham Young a famous American Beekeeper...his interest in bees led to Utah being called the "Beehive State" and having skep hives as emblems.

Leo Tolstoy the Russian author and beekeeper, mentions beekeeping twice in his book, "War and Peace"

Martha Steward, model, stockbroker, avid gardener and beekeeper says "keeping bees is a good thing."

Henry Fonda, star of 96 films, this hobby beekeeper gave away honey in jars that he labeled "Henry's Honey". When he was a youngster, he earned the Eagle Scout's merit badge for beekeeping.

Genesis -Chapter 12- Abram given promise

In chapter 11 of Genesis we are introduced to a descendant of Noah's son Shem, by the name of Terah. This patriarach left his home of Ur and moved his immediate family to Haran. Why did he do this? Terah willingly submitted to God's will for his son Abram, this meant changing where he lived.(Gen 11:26-32). Later, after Terah died, Abram is given a promise that effects all mankind.

Listen to God's promise to Abram, "Go your way out of your country and from your relatives...to a country that I shall show you; and I shall make a great nation out of you...and all the families of the ground will certainly bless themselves by means of you." -Genesis 12:1-3. Obedient to Jehovah's direction Abram with his adopted nephew Lot, crossed the Euphrates River into Canaan. -Gen 12:5 (Compare:Acts 7:2-4) It appears this covenant went into effect when Abram crossed the Euphrates. The Abrahamic covenant is "a covenant to time indefinite" and remains in effect until the blessing of the families of the earth and the destruction of all God's enemies have been accomplished. - Gen 17:7; 1 Corith 15:23-26.

In order to receive this wonderful promise Abram would have to make radical changes in his life.

Put yourself in his position, Abram was leaving a comfortable, prosperous city and his extended family -which was an important source of security in patriarachal times. He and his family obediently ventured out into an unfamiliar land. Once he was in Canaan he did not seek safety inside city walls. Instead, he followed Jehovah's instructions to "go about in the land" with his family, dwelling in tents. "By faith (Abram) resided as an alien resident" -Hebrew 11:9 (Gen 12:4; 13:17.)

They relied only on Jehovah for protection and support. (Compare: Prov 18:10) As, you will see this support was needed. Abram and his household remained faithful despite many tests.

When a severe famine caused Abram to move to Egypt, he asked Sarah to identify herself as his sister (she was his half-sister) so he would not be murdered. His fear was real, an Egyptian could only get Sarah, a married woman, by killing her husband. If she was viewed as Abram's sister, there was in the Egyptians mind of a possibility of winning her from the brother by befriending him. -Genesis 12:10-16

While Jehovah did not direct Abram to be dishonest, we must remember, that God uses imperfect people to accomplish His purposes. Abram's motives were noble for if he had met death in Egypt, the line of the Seed would have been broken, the Seed though whom "all the families of the earth would be blessed." In all this , Abram acted in the interests of the promised seed, that would effect all mankind.- (Compare: Gen 3:15; 22:17, 18; Gal 3:16)

Abram learned not to be unduly anxious, as seen at Genesis 12:17-20, Jehovah himself protected Sarai and Abram from any harm. All of Abram's household, including Lot, was a witness to Jehovah's protective arm, and their faith was further built up.

What do you think? Can humans living today, develop faith like Abram's, even making radical changes in their lives to receive blessings that come from living in harmony with Jehovah's purposes? Like Abram will we put our full confidence in the promised Seed?

Genesis- Chapters -10 & 11

The Earth Becomes Divided.

After the flood, Noah became the first patriarch, teaching his children and grandchildren. Directing them in the way of pure worship. He would teach them about Jehovah's will for the earth to be filled with people under God's righteous rule, lovingly helping each other. Would they exercise their free-will in a correct manner, listening to their patriarch?

Satan and his demons were no longer allowed to take on human form, but that did not stop them from interferring with Jehovah's purpose for the earth. During Noah's lifetime false religion again rose up . This was under the leadership of Nimrod (meaning: rebel) "He displayed himself a mighty hunter in front of Jehovah. That is why there is a saying: "Just like Nimrod a mighty hunter in opposition to Jehovah."-Gen 10:9

Remember, "God blessed Noah and his sons and told them to "Be fruitful and become many and fill the earth." -Gen 9:1

Nimrod 'stirred up the whole world against God's Sovereignty" -Encyclopedia of Biblical Interpetation by Minahem M. Kashen Vol II, 1985 p.79. Nimrod was the first after the flood to unite the scattered patriarchal rule, and gather them under himself as the only head and master; all of this in defiance of Jehovah.

He united them with a purpose, "Come on! Let us build ourselves a city and also a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a celebrated name for ourselves, for fear we may be scattered over all the surface of the earth."-Gen 11:4 This was in direct opposition to God's command to "fill the earth." and it was a rebellion against Noah's position as God's prophet. Reflecting the qualities of Satan the Devil, these rebellious ones wanted the honor for themselves, not for God.

What would God do? "Come now! Let us go down and there confuse their language that they may not listen to one another's language." Accordingly Jehovah scattered them from there over all the surface of the earth, and they gradually left off building the city. That is why its name was called Babel, because there Jehovah had confused the language of all the earth, and Jehovah had scattered them from there over all the surface of the earth." -Gen 11:7-9

This action taken by the only true God at Babel prevented the forming of one united false religion, giving the Devil worship he craved. Not being able to understand one another must have been extremely frustrating. As these rebels were dispersed through out the earth they took with them divided false teachings.

We learn that no human scheme or effort can thwart Jehovah's purpose. (Compare: Gen 9:1; 11:9) Noah and Shem were not involved in the tower building, they continued to obey Jehovah's wise direction and teach it to others. (Gen 9:26)

Noah died about two years before Abram was born, so he got to see Jehovah's judgment on the builders of the Tower of Babel.

The two records of genealogy surrounding the account of the flood -chapters 5 and 10 -connect the entire human race with the first man, Adam, through Noah's three sons.

Descendants of Shem: Assyrians, Chaldeans, Hebrews, Syrians, and some Arabian tribes.

From Ham: Ethiopians, Egyptians, Canaanites, and some African and Arabian tribes.

From Japheth: Indo-Europeans.

This is a good reminder that all humans are related, and all are born equal before God. (Acts 17:26) This truth must affect how we view and treat others.

I Should Have Been An Architect-

I like this! Of course if I lived here I would definitely have to have goats.
Baby goats in the spring! What fun!

What to do with all those empty glass bottles?
How about a nice garden/guest house?

This home I like!
In a few years, with some minor adjustments it may be just right.
What do you think?
